Sculpture in the Gaol takes place each year towards the end of winter, when the skies are clear, the days mild and the sunsets are sumptuous. It’s a perfect time of year to visit the Historic Gaol and enjoy the amazing artworks that have been created.
The opening event is always a great day with food from local eateries, live music, market stalls and a great atmosphere.
The sculpture exhibition attracts entries from all over NSW, including many local schools from around the Macleay Valley. Works are exhibited in and around the gaol cells, which makes for a unique gallery experience, adding an extra artistic dimension to the fascinating stories conveyed via interpretation panels dotted throughout the precinct.
The sculptures also escape the Gaol! Can you help find them? Follow the #EscapeeTrail around South West Rocks to discover cheerful local business owners hosting fabulous sculptures.
Immerse yourself in history and culture at Sculpture in the Gaol, Saturday 5th to Saturday 30th August 2019.
