Recently voted amongst the top 3 dive locations in Australia, South West Rocks offers World class diving. The main dive site ‘Fish Rock’ is home to a completely unique ecosystem featuring Australia’s only true ocean cave running 125 metres right through the island and surrounded by a plethora of marine life including Turtles, Rays and the largest congregation of the friendly Grey Nurse Sharks on the east coast of Australia. Divers only need an Open Water Certification to experience this amazing dive. The dive Centres also offer to learn how to dive, contact local operators to find out more!

Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP)

The pristine waterways, the calm, safe environment and abundance of tropical marine life makes South West Rocks a top destination to stand up paddle board for people at all skill levels. Discover and explore breathtaking Back Creek at high tide or surf the long rolling waves at Trial Bay. BIG4 Sunshine has inflatable Paddle Boards (so no need for roof racks), that come with a pump, paddle and seat, all contained in a handy backpack. SWR SUP is a great local operator that you can join in a group tour or hire boards at Back Creek.

The South West Rocks area provides a whole coastline of surfing breaks depending on swell direction, wind strength and tides. Before your stay look online for the right conditions and bring your board! Check out our Beach page for more information.

BIG4 Sunshine has 3 person (can fit a 4th if the kids are little) canoes, and single Kayaks for exploring the Saltwater Lagoon at the rear of the resort – a great way to see the abundance of birds in the area and a safe way to take the kids on the water. Check out our hire page for pricing.

Whale Watching

The Gaol, the lighthouse, the beach, the track – we are so close to the Continental Shelf here, it is a great spot for watching the Whales cruise past from April – September. We are hoping that a local operator will soon be offering Whale watching tours…watch this space!
