There are plenty of options in South West Rocks when getting active on foot or on 2 wheels! Paths are connected all the way from Back Creek through to Trial Bay… You can use the pathways of South West Rocks to see the most beautiful beaches as they wind past the breathtaking coast and under and through the sub-tropical vegetation.
Directly opposite reception there is a track that can take you into town on foot or a bike or out towards the Gaol and the beach.
The Trial Bay Triathlon is an annual event held in South West Rocks in February. 2019 is the 30th year it has been running & it includes junior events. Also, the South West Rocks Running Festival on the June long weekend is holding its 38th Annual event.
If you’re after a heart-pumping trek, then grab your hiking boots and head for Gap Beach walking track, a 10-minute drive from Sunshine Gap Beach walking track is a great walk for experienced bush walkers, birdwatchers, and those who love a challenging hike.
If you take a walk along the Monument Hill walking track, you’ll be rewarded with the sight of casuarinas in the heath-lands, spectacular coastal views, and the fresh sea breeze upon your cheeks as you approach the summit. Whales are abundant from April to November and this track provides a great vantage point to see them waving their tails close by.
The monument itself was built as a tribute to German internees who passed away in Trial Bay Gaol during World War One. Along the walk you’ll see many flannel flowers, planted by the internees because they reminded them of edelweiss and of home.
If you do feel like a longer walk, you can join the Bridle trail and loop back via Powder Magazine walking track, and if you’d like a break, you can enjoy a picnic or go for a paddle around Little Bay picnic area.
Walking or running there is something for everyone in South West Rocks for an enjoyable, safe and beautiful experience.
